Happy Sweet Year (Feliz Ano Doce)

Bilingual Post
Post bilíngue. Texto em português após as fotos.

Appelflappen, appelbeignets, appelbollen, kaas (cheese) or saucijs (sausage) broodjes...

My faves ? Oliebollen ! With raisins, please. But you can try "naturel" - without raisins - too.

Very caloric everything - but then we have the excuse it is so cold and you need more food (ha ! There is warming on everywhere: cars, buses, trains, buildings, houses...)
**************

Gelukkig Nieuwjaar !

It's Decembarah...

Goodbye and Keep Cold

A poem by Robert Frost

This saying good-bye on the edge of the dark
And cold to an orchard so young in the bark
Reminds me of all that can happen to harm
An orchard away at the end of the farm
All winter, cut off by a hill from the house.
I don't want it girdled by rabbit and mouse,
I don't want it dreamily nibbled for browse
By deer, and I don't want it budded by grouse.
(If certain it wouldn't be idle to call
I'd summon grouse, rabbit, and deer to the wall
And warn them away with a stick for a gun.)
I don't want it stirred by the heat of the sun.
(We made it secure against being, I hope,
By setting it out on a northerly slope.)
No orchard's the worse for the wintriest storm;
But one thing about it, it mustn't get warm.
"How often already you've had to be told,
Keep cold, young orchard. Good-bye and keep cold.
Dread fifty above more than fifty below."
I have to be gone for a season or so.
My business awhile is with different trees,
Less carefully nourished, less fruitful than these,
And such as is done to their wood with an axe--
Maples and birches and tamaracks.
I wish I could promise to lie in the night
And think of an orchard's arboreal plight
When slowly (and nobody comes with a light)
Its heart sinks lower under the sod.
But something has to be left to God.

The Neverending Story

I want to wear layers, shiver in the silver night, hear the train roar in the crisp crackle of the cold. It feels like summer will never end. It's time for the snap, the crunch of frost in the grass. I want to put away my shorts, and pair flannel with stripes. The Texas frost hasn't hit yet, the heat still beats off the asphalt. You can feel the sigh of the earth as the days grow longer, and remain damp. It too wants to make a change. Burn my lungs in white chilly mornings, drink frothy hot chocolate where the marshmellows melt. Bring me a winter where I can make a fire. I'll remember the summer that never ended, while I brush my cheek against the furry underlayer of my coat.

Lesson #27:  You always have something to look forward to.

Where Has Spring Gone ? [Cade a Primavera ???]

Saco viu ? Muito saco cheio. A neve já me cansou.

Folks, the last days have been SO *%$#! cold. Cold but ok - no snow. All the signs were indicating spring was slowly coming around the corner. My bulbs at home were already showing their shapes and colours and I was planning to storage my heaviest coats. And attack the plants in the back yard in order to prepare them for the spring sun. Pure ilusion. When I woke up this morning: tada ! Snow everywhere in the back yard. Just like Marcella had told me months ago: "white shit". Then I have two options: or slowly and dangerously driving with the car or go walking feeling the cold while pushing a buggy.

It is a waste of time to start complaining and thinking that in Brazil it would be better now. No it is not. That is the destiny of an expat. And in fact Holland is one of the best countries in the world to live a civilized experience. At least for someone who likes organization - like me.

Every expat takes a lot of melhacholy and inconprehension. When I go on vacation to Brasil I feel myself a bit tourist. I discover many famous people have died, people who I thought were still kids are already having their own kids, the hits I used to like have become oldies, bars have closed down and new slangs were developed. And although I go there with a certain regularity the surprise factor still keeps hitting me. (It is a good thing, I believe ?)

Lindas imagens, lindos posts. Estou adorando:

Rio etc.
Brazil/Social/Photography

Prontofalei.

I want to see familiar images I want to keep myself informed I want to see some colours and bare skin. I am loving now:

Rio etc. (images and videos)
Deep Brazil (English)
Rio Daily Photo (in Portuguese and English)
The Good Blood (in English)

Enjoy !

Winterblues Monday

Today is considered by Brittish psychologist Cliff Arnall the most depressive day of the year. Why ? Well, it is the third Monday of January. You have forgotten the good feelings from Christmas and New Year's Eve, it doesn't snow anylonger and you have to work months before its vacation time.
And the bills start arriving.
Uh-uh !
Amsterdam was pretty misty today - what has its charms. Photos will be coming soon.
Therefore, in order to combat my winterblues I did the following today:

* I have bought a lovely CD in de Kalverstraat: "Ziriguiboom, The Now Sound of Brazil". There is Dutch/Brazilian group Zuco 103, Celso Fonseca, Cibelle and BEBEL GILBERTOOOO !!! If I was a man I would fall in love with her. She sings Cada Beijo with that acent. It becomes then Cada Beijuuuuuu-huuuu uh-huuuuu... Especially this song is the best mix of samba with bossa, totally cool.
* I have eaten a big fresh fruitmix - for the vitamines and anti-oxidants;
* I have watched "Bienvenue Chez les Ch'tis" - a bit exagerated characters, but not bad.

* I have decided to Ho'Oponopono some people, my little pains, my whole life. I started (re) doing it last Friday, when I was on the bus on the way to meet someone. The last time I had seen that woman was November, and she gave me lots of headaches. Oh boy! Ho'Oponopono has worked volumes !! The woman last Friday was transformed into another person.
I do need to clean, clean, clean ! The Hawaiian method Ho'Oponopono seems simple.
Just repeat continuously
"I love you" / "Please forgive me" / "I am sorry" / "Thank you". But it is OH SO DIFFICULT to employ it ! I have to release so many wrong memories. All the problems of the world are due to wrong memories. I forget very frequently about practising iHo'Oponopono. But I will be talking about this healing method later on in this blog. More about it here. I was introduced to it via a colleague who lent me his book "Zero Limits".

Well, I have searched for some pics to embellish this Winterblues Monday.
I think the pies suit this purpose . Have you all a nice week !!

Snow (Sneeuw) [Neve]

Photos above and below: Singel, Amsterdam

It still suprises me the fact that there is much less snow in Amsterdam than in my village. The difference is huge. It is possible to take a bike in A'dam, in my village you can ride a bike only on the main avenue. In Holland, there has been a lack of salt since after Christmas. Did I have problems with traffic ? Well, only one day when buses were circulating once every hour (instead of every 15min.). My husband instead has spent 3h and 15min inside Amsterdam in order to reach home. That is crazy. Well, when there is no wind I do like snow. Everything gets so quiet and charming... I prefer it much more than when it is wet and windy - I HATE rain. I wonder how much damage into the economy so much snow can cost.

Anita:

O primeiro passou as 09h45.”

E tudo fica tão calmo e silencioso... Vou ver se coloco algumas fotos no blog. Basta ter paciência e aguardar..
.

Beijocas e bom finde,
Anita
