La Paella

Every Thursday evening the shops in Amsterdam, Zaandam and other cities stay open until later. It is called koopavond (shopping evening). Yesterday straight after work I went to A'dam in order to check some sales. Later on, colleague N. met me in department store Bijenkorf and we walked together to search for a place to eat. We thought about Argentinean El Tango but we ended up in La Paella, in the heart of the Red Light district. Actually the area now is becoming Red Light Fashion disctrict cause more and more so-hip-it-hurts shops are opening all the time . I'll be making some special articles about some of these amaaaaazing shops and the area later on in futue posts.

N. comes from a little pueblocito in Brazil called Sao Paulo (ever heard of ?) . At school in the month of september there was always paella for all students. They used to celebrate the Hispanidad , you see. The chef came straight from restaurant Don Curro where the best paellas of the galaxy are served. After her commenting this, we turned our ankles to La Paella.

La Paella is especialized in ... paellas. The combination of tapas is great, and there are also many fish and fruit-de-mer dishes, but (there is always a but) they come or with salad or French fries as side dishes. French fries are fattening and I refuse to eat salads out of home. So we went for octupus with paprika for starter and a Paella Marinera for two persons as entree. Plus drinks and bread with aioli, the total amount reached 60euros - tip included. Not bad !

Co-worker and sweetie N (left) and this blog author (right) , happy to dive in the paella !

Now... Amsterdam is an international but no gastronomic city as San Paolo, and La Paella serves decent meals but is no Don Curro. Nevertheless, I had a great time. By the way, althought I do not have a sweet tooth I can recommend also their crema catalana ! Vaya !
