Rodizio (Amsterdam)

Weeks ago, while looking for a place to eat ou with his friends in Amsterdam, my husband noticed there was a Brazilian restaurant in the Zeedijk area. Last Saturday we took the kids for some activites in the Mokkum and decided to pay a visit to the place.

At 6pm my kids were already asking to sit down and whether I had some cookies. Dinner time ! At Rodizio we were the first ones, greeted at the door by Rosilene. She took us to maybe the best table in the place: right to the end, near the back window where the kids could see the boats passing by and hubby and I could spot girls in the nearby building practising some belly dancing.

We decided to go for the rodizio with grilled meats. But there are other options as well.
The interior is pretty, with mixed styles and with lots of Brazilian refrerences. My little girl loved the voyage to the toilet and the toilet seat (with flowers) . We had to visit it 5 times.

Above: the cold and warm buffet, with fish , chicken, spare ribs, farofa, fluffy rice... The black beans were perfectly cooked and seasoned, and had pieces of sausages. I missed a complete feijoada and Brazilian regional dishes though ! The clientele seemed very eccletic the evening we were there: a large group of Brazilians at a common table, hetero and gay couples, some men dining alone, big girls having a night out... the songs played were all Brazilian. The sphere was relaxed.

Above: meat served in skewers - Brazilian way. Salted and grilled, sliced on your table. Perfect with beer, capirinha, or guarana !
Above and below: gringos going for the first time to a Brazilian rodizio have no idea of what such cards mean. Well, when you are ready for a quick service, just leave your card facing green up. It is a sign that you are ready for more grilled meat. Wanna pause a little, do some chat and maybe serve yourself from the buffet ? Let the card facing red up. My husband always, always keeps it green up. When in Brazil, you better leave it now and then red, otherwise there are three guys trying to grab your attention at the same time: "ribeye sir ?", "a slice of picanha (aka top sirloin) mam ?", "M'am filet ? filet ? filet ?" "A churrascaria rodizio is not recommended for vegetarians, dieters, or long-winded conversationalists" (How to be a caRIOca - The Alternative Guide for the Tourist in Rio, lesson 9, page 68)

I have found the meat too salty, maybe due to the rocky salt they use for these kinds of grillings. Incredible, because in Brazil I just loved it - but then I am not used to it anymore. If we were not with the kids, probably we would have asked desserts (caramel pudding, passie fruit or pinieapple mousse ?) and stretch our visit. But it was time to hurry before the rain falls, so I asked for coffee, hubby paid the bill and we all waved goodbye - with smiles and trilling little fingers.

Last pic, while the next capirinha is being prepared !
